Second covenant supersedes first

Jesus serves as priest in the original dwelling place of God. All the earthly Jewish priests had served in a copy of that heavenly dwelling. Moses was given a glimpse of that heavenly one and was told to make the earthly on just like the heavenly pattern shown to him. And he did.
Do women want cubic zirconia or diamonds? Of course they want diamonds. No one wants a cheap imitation of the real thing. We want the genuine. Jesus serves at the genuine dwelling place and offered a sacrifice that never needs to be repeated because it fulfilled all the requirements demanded of it.
The old agreement between God and humankind could not accomplish what was needed because humankind is weak and spiritually dead. It could only serve to point out that fact and drive people to rely on the mercy and grace of God. It was merely a copy of the reality found in Jesus.
All the sacrifices that were prescribed in the Old Testament were shadows of Jesus life, death and resurrection. They all pointed forward to His ultimate, perfect sacrifice. Without His death, all the blood of bulls and goats offered over those centuries were nothing but spilled blood. They only had value when Jesus came and became the solid object that cast the shadow.
