Day 49

Memorize: Heralding gospel in chains

Acts 28

Key Verses: 3, 8, 16, 17, 28, 30-31

The Lord wants to reach those living on the island of Malta. He allows a storm to wreck the ship, sparing the crew and passengers, and includes Paul among the journeyers. Then He allows a snake in the firewood to latch onto Paul’s hand, as a sign that God is present. Paul ends up being used by the Lord to cure the father of the chief official of that island. Talk about walking in high circles! Paul is a prisoner meeting with and attending to the highest ranking people in the island. Then the rest of the sick come and are also cured. Talk about a perfect setup! We don’t read about Paul sharing the Gospel and about their response, but I can bet there was a great response! Paul had three months of preaching and teaching.

When they arrive at Rome, Paul is treated well, even though he is still a prisoner. He arranges a meeting with the Jewish leaders there in Rome. He wants to open up an opportunity for witness. And witness he does. As usual, some become Jesus-followers and some don’t. So Paul moves his focus to the Gentiles.

We read that for two years Paul is able to preach and teach without anything standing is his way. He is a prisoner and yet is free to continue his mission. God’s grace is action! Nothing stands in the way of God accomplishing His purposes. Look at your circumstances today. Are there things that seem to be getting in the way of God accomplishing His will in your life? Remember, they just seem to be in the way. If it is God’s purpose, nothing can stand in the way.
