John 1:1,14,29 – Day 1

Memorize: Jesus is the Word
John 1

Key Verses: 1, 14, 29

Our chapter phrase comes from verse 1 & 14. Read verse one “In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.” This is John’s point. Jesus is the Word! Jesus was here before the world existed and then created the world. Everything that is light and life comes from Him. By believing in Him we are adopted into God’s family.

This first section of John has been one of the most deeply discussed of any passage of Scripture. It has been mined by the greatest scholars of all time for the deepest Truth about God and man, and they continue to be mined. We may not understand the depths of truth here, but we can certainly understand some of the Truth. As you read, focus on what you can learn about God and about man. And then put what you learn into practice in your life.

Verse 29 helps to give us some focus to our search for truth. In order to understand anything, we must understand ourselves, and sin is an important part of that understanding. That is where Truth can hurt. Sin hurts. In fact, sin kills! And that is where this Jesus comes in. He takes the sin away. That is why it is important to believe in Jesus. Because He is God, He has the power and authority to solve the sin problem.

That is why knowing that believing that Jesus is the Word is so important. As we progress through the book of John, and through the rest of the New Testament, there are two central foci of the whole Scriptures: Jesus & sin.

We just celebrated Christmas, the convergence of God and a sin-soaked world. It is because of this singular act that we can have life and life in light. Celebrate and live! Jesus is the Word.
