34 It looks down on all that are haughty; it is king over all that are proud.
These are the final words in the response the LORD spoke to Job. He is using the illustration of a simple animal which is undefeatable in human terms, at least before gun powder. If the fight against the crocodile is futile, how much more a fight against the One who created the crocodile! Our wisdom is limited. Our knowledge has a limit. Even the best thinking of humanity is but a child’s understanding. Our passage paints of a picture of the intricacies of the design of this animal. All the pieces are put together in order to create a virtually impenetrable exterior. It is feared by everyone. How much more should the LORD be placed in a position of respect. We should honor Him, place Him in the position of importance in our life. What do we have to be filled with pride about? Just as the LORD gave the crocodile a design that fulfills His purpose for it, so the LORD has designed us with a purpose. We are to reflect His glory, just as the crocodile does. Everything was designed for a purpose. What is your personal purpose? How does the way you are living your life reflect the LORD’s purpose in this world?
