3 Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
Have you ever wished for something, and then when you got your wish it did not turn out the way you expected? In the military we move a lot. And often those moves take us to places we did not want to go. We fill out at “dream sheet” and hope for the best. Sometimes we get the place we want and it turns out to be a terrible place to live, not at all what we expected. Job has been asking for an opportunity to speak face to face with the LORD. He has questions to ask, and he wants answers. Well, his time has come, but it is not what he expects. Anytime someone says “brace yourself” I know it is not going to be a good experience. When the oxygen masks fall and the pilot tells you to “brace yourself” … not good. You are driving on a snowy stretch of road and the car starts to spin and the driver says “brace yourself” … not good. When the LORD says “brace yourself” … not good. And yet this is exactly where Job is. He has gotten his wish, and one of the first things he is told is “brace yourself.” Job is going to be given a dose of humble pie. I think the pie is for Job’s good. That is God’s character; He does what is best for us in the long run. The LORD has a plan and begins to point out that plan by looking at creation. Even if Job does not understand, which no human being can understand, the LORD has a plan. The LORD has a plan in your life. Your life might seem to be spinning out of control at this moment, but the LORD has a plan. He will use the turmoil you are experiencing for your good. He will turn it around.
