11He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
It is hard to imagine eternity! Everything in this world has an end, wears out, changes. Nothing here is eternal. All the beauty that we do observe is only temporary. We notice that with the change of seasons, the leaves revealing their true colors and dropping, the snows melting and the crocus emerging. And yet the Lord has a greater beauty in store for us. Notice that our internal clocks are on a different time zone than our physical clocks. We all know that we are going to die some day, at least we ought to know this! Life will leave our body and decomposition will begin. Once life leaves, our bodies fall into chaos and disintegrate. It is only our life that keeps the parts functioning. Once life leaves, so does the functioning. That is our physical clock existence. But the Lord has placed a second clock in us, a clock that works on a very different time: eternity. But even though we have this eternity time in us, we don’t have the capacity to grasp the content of eternity. Our capacity for comprehension and knowledge is limited. Only God can fathom it all.
