22Sept 2011 Isaiah 57:15

15For this is what the high and lofty One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

We hear two elements about God’s presence in this verse. First is that He lives in a particular place we know as Heaven. But He also lives with the contrite and lowly in spirit. He has a particular spot and is also everywhere. Those lowly have a special relationship with Him. It is not that He is absent from other places, but that the lowly are tuned in to Him. Think of a WiFi hotspot. The Internet is flying through the airwaves everywhere. Our smart phones can pick it up in an instant. We step into a WiFi hotspot with the right equipment, establish the connection, and access is had. It is that ‘WiFi moment’ that I am talking about. We must, like the lowly, choose to tune in. We have to have the right equipment, a lowly humble spirit, and we must choose to connect. The LORD is always present, ready for our connection. In fact, He is constantly ‘pinging’ us, letting us know that He is ready for connection. We must respond to His presence. The sad thing is that we can choose to not connect or to disconnect. We can choose to live our lives as though the internet does not exist. It is all around, but we can choose to ignore it. The same is true of the LORD. But just because we act as though He is not there, does not make it so, anymore than ignoring the existence of the internet makes it nonexistent. The LORD wants to revive our hearts, but we must tune in, have a humble heart.
