10Sept 2011 Isaiah 28:6

6He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

In the middle of Isaiah’s “woe” to Ephraim, these verses jump out like a beacon of light in a dark cave. In the middle of all the destruction and turmoil, the LORD will shine forth. He will bring justice. Justice rarely comes in this world, and what is even rarer is justice when the battle is still raging. As we are seeing in the Middle East today, it is what happens after that battle that matters the most. It is after the battle that the future gets shaped. Yes, the righteousness or justice of the battle is important, but that is just a moment in time. Isaiah says that after the battle the LORD will bring the justice. He will make sure justice comes. And He will make sure those who expended their energy in defense of the city will be strengthened again. The LORD will bring restoration after the battle. This is true in our lives as well. Our lives are usually not one long battle. Usually life has lulls, times when the LORD can bring restoration. We will not always be in the battle. The battle you are in now will not always be there. It will shift and change. It might even fade completely from your life. So when the battle begins to lulls, look to the LORD for justice and strength. He wants to bring it into your life. But you must be willing to seize that opportunity of refreshing.
