19July 2011 2 Chronicles 17:7

7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.

The first Mobile Sunday School! The king sent out this team to teach the common people the Word of God. He recognized that it was vital for everyone, not just the leaders, to know what the Word said about everyday life, and how to please the Lord. This is so true even today. It is not enough for the preachers to know the Word. We each need to know what the Lord has to say to us about how to live a life pleasing to Him. We need to have the Word in us and with us every moment of our day so that we can make decisions in keeping with His character. These select men went out and taught the Law to the people. When they heard it they repented. They turned away from their sins and to the Lord. God’s Word will change people’s hearts. If they respond in humility and repentance, God softens and uses them for greater things. If they rebel, God hardens and begins the process of judgment in the hopes they will repent. As the people got a good hold on the Word, they became better citizens and better people. They did their jobs with more faithfulness and integrity. The whole nation benefited from their repentance. Our nation would benefit from an increase in the knowledge and application of God’s Word.
