7That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
The Price is Right without having to do any guessing! Solomon is given a unique opportunity to get whatever he wants. He asks for wisdom and understanding. What would be the content of your request, if the Lord came to you? Think about it, anything you want. Solomon asks for something permanent. Wealth and fame come and go. Wisdom and understanding you can keep even if you lose everything else. Remember, Solomon is already very wealthy. He has taken over as king after his father has died. There is plenty of money and luxury. He could have asked for justice against some of his family’s enemies. He could have asked to be made king of the world. What would your request be if you rubbed that bottle and a genie came out? I know some friends who would ask for their husbands to be brought back to life, having been killed in war. Some would ask that the affair never happened, or that their spouse would fall in love with them again. Some would ask to go back in time and make a different decision that would result in the life rather than death of a baby. Some would make that phone call to a parent before they died, or a brother or a friend. They would ask for forgiveness. They would say, “I love you.” What would your request be?
