5 All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
The musicians in the Temple were given specific ways to use music and words in worship. In this chapter we see music used to proclaim (prophesy) is several different ways. Thanking, praising, and using the promises of God were all specific ways they were instructed to use music and words to worship in the Temple. As we read the Psalms, the hymnbook of their day, we can see these elements being woven into their songs. Our songs of worship should be about telling the story or our salvation, proclaiming the greatness of our God, and inviting others to join His family. They are not to be “self” centered songs. They are to focus on the Lord and proclaim His goodness.
