22June 2011 2 Kings 19:14

14Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.

What do you do when your troubles are overwhelming? King Hezekiah is being threatened by a large, powerful army. He is backed into a corner. He has no way of defending his country. He has already sent all the money he had to try to stop this invasion, but it didn’t work. So what does he do? He runs to the LORD. He goes into God’s presence and lays it all out. In the prayer that follows, he expresses the uniqueness of the LORD and his faith in the LORD. We need to get in the habit of doing the same thing. When our lives become overwhelming, we need to run into the Lord’s presence and lay it all out before Him. It is not that He doesn’t know what is going on, but that we need to acknowledge our own inability to do it on our own. We need to confess our weakness and His strength. We need to stop being so stubbornly independent and become dependent on Him and interdependent on each other. I would even suggest that we get in the habit of running into the LORD’s presence even when there is no emergency.
