30Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she painted her eyes, arranged her hair and looked out of a window.
Some things don’t need explaining, even things that happened almost three thousand years ago. Jezebel was a wicked queen, very wicked. She had been willing to sell herself for power, and here she is doing it again. It is a sad state of affairs when anyone is willing to sell themselves for power. This kind of thing makes the news every day, doesn’t it? Some powerful person has attached to their side someone along for the ride. Arm candy. And the powerful person sells their soul for a pittance. But this is not confined to the mega-powerful. I see it in the young families I serve. Some are willing to sell themselves for a compliment spoken in a time of need. Some sell for a conversation or two. Some sell for the façade of a Facebook profile and meaningless banter. They will fly across the country to meet their perfect soul mate. But soon the masks of artificiality get removed and Satan has been up to his old tricks again. In our story, Jezebel had the ability to entice with her appearance hiding the wickedness of her spirit.
