13June 2011 1 Kings 22:40

40Ahab rested with his fathers. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

This short verse is the epitaph of a life spent in rebellion to the LORD. Ahab was a wicked rebellious king. He spent his life serving idols and leading his people astray. He was killed in battle by a random arrow fired. He had taken precautions in battle by disguising himself so that he would not appear to be the king. And yet he was killed. He had been warned repeatedly to turn back to the LORD, but those warnings went unheeded. Even when he was told that his son would bear the brunt of God’s judgment, he refused to turn in repentance. I know if I knew my son was in trouble, and I was the cause, I would do everything in my power to help him out. If he was going to get my punishment, I would go and correct the situation, confessing my guilt and his innocence. And yet Ahab let his son get an inheritance of trouble. When a father lets his son receive his punishment it says volumes about his character. Are you receiving your parents’ evil inheritance? I suggest that you draw in close to the LORD in repentance. He will accept you and restore you as a child of God. The LORD honors a sincere heart. He will forgive and cleanse.
