13You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
The reason Jesus came was to bring freedom from sin. The outcome of freedom from sin is service to one another. Some people think freedom from sin means freedom to sin. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sin for the Believer should be like Kryptonite to Superman. It has the same effect on both. Sin robs the Believer of everything that makes the Believer effective. It takes away the Believer’s power. It robs him of his ability to think clearly and eventually it will kill him. That is why we are told not to indulge the sinful nature. It is like drinking a little bit of deadly poison at a time. It does not kill immediately, but it does kill eventually, if the drinking continues. What sins are habitual in your life right now? What areas do you continue to stumble again and again? Where are the greatest struggles in your life with obedience? How are you serving others in love? It is one thing to not be tangled in sin, but the reason to not be tangled is so that we can be free to serve others.
