14They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,
Comparing the believer to a tree might seem a little strange to our modern ears. But that is exactly what the Psalm writer does. He has told how good, how profitable it is to have praise be a regular part of our life, especially when that praise is recounting what the Lord has accomplished in history. What I find especially encouraging as I get older is that I can remain growing and strong as I get older. I don’t have to wither up, but I can continue to be fruitful. Just because I draw my retirement check does not mean that my contribution to society and to the Kingdom ends. I can still be helpful and pass along God’s wisdom to others. I can continue to allow the Holy Spirit to work through me. That is good news for me. I want to continue to contribute. I want to stay fresh and green without surgeries!
