6Apr 2011 Joshua 14:15

15(Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba after Arba, who was the greatest man among the Anakites.) Then the land had rest from war.

Those of us connected to the military know the struggles of war and the great toll it takes on our spirits. A good friend of my came up to me yesterday and said, “We are on blackout again.” I knew exactly what she meant. “Blackout” happens when someone is killed downrange in battle. All communication is cutoff until the family is notified. That means everyone connected to the unit is sitting on edge waiting to see if someone in a uniform shows up at their door with the bad news. Civilians don’t understand this intense emotional pressure that is a daily part of military life. Caleb was one of only two people to leave Egypt and enter the Promised Land. He had to put up with the punishment that accompanied everyone’s rebellion. He had waited an additional 45 years and now he was ready to settle down in the land he had marveled at so many years earlier. He just wanted rest. I look forward to the day when this world is not at war. But that will only happen when Jesus takes up His throne here on earth. Until then, followers of Islam will continue to slaughter each other and anyone who does not bow to their view of the world. That is their history. That is what they preach, teach and practice today around the world. This is the reality of the foe we are facing.
