5Yet I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay.
Humility is required if we are going to ask for help. If we think we can do it ourselves, why would we ask for someone’s help? We hate the words “poor and needy” in our culture. The American Dream is about not having to say those words. It is about pulling ourselves up by our own bootstraps and making it happen. But every one of us runs out of resources at times. We all have a limited supply. So when you run out, where do you go to get replenished? The Psalmist runs to the Source. He recognizes his own inability and acknowledges God’s ability. He is willing to say that he is poor and needed. Are you willing to say these words to the Lord?
