29Mar 2011 Psalm 69:28

28May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.

Sometimes anger is expressed in very powerful language in the Psalms. This anger is often toward other people. In this Psalm the language is very personal and very eternal. The Psalmist wants this person’s eternal destiny altered. He wants them removed from heaven’s list. But of course that is God’s job. We are not the judge and jury of heaven. Have you ever been so upset you wanted someone thrown into Hell? That is what the Psalmist is asking. Notice the balance again, anger and praise. It is safe to bring your anger into God’s presence. It will not scare Him away. You will not be rejected because you are experiencing strong emotions. Emotions are part of the language wired into us by the Lord. We don’t need to run from them or even allow them to become the complete focus of our lives. They are, however, one real element of our lives. Any time one element dominates, we have to consider the possibility that we are out of balance.
