28Mar 2011 Psalm 68:1-2

1May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him. 2As smoke is blown away by the wind, may you blow them away; as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before God.

These verses threw me for a loop. I said to myself, “Are these verses really in the Scriptures?” Yes they are! Remember, the Scriptures reflect real people with real emotions in a real place in real life. Go back and read verse 2 again, but this time do it with your best “Godfather” accent. Sounds like the dialog from a movie, doesn’t it! I can hear the elder speaking to his assigned hit man about his next mission. The Psalmist must be in a very tough spot. He recalls throughout this psalm the victories and the way God brought about those victories. There is a ‘back and forth’ between God ‘taking care of’ the enemies and the praise. It is that back and forth that sometimes gets lost when we want God to ‘take care of’ our enemies. We often get stuck in the anger and miss the praise. Are you stuck in your anger? Take time to balance that anger with a genuine appreciation for the Lord. Take time to get lost in Him. It won’t take your anger away, but it will give you a better perspective on your situation. The Lord cares about us. He cares about you and your situation. It is OK to be angry, but be sure your anger is balanced with genuine worship of the Lord.
