18Mar 2011 Deuteronomy 9:6

6Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Three times in the paragraph this truth in contained: it is not because of their righteousness. The Israelites are not being moved into the Promised Land because they deserve it. They are being moved in because the other people are so evil. The Lord does not pour His grace out on people that deserve it. No people deserve His grace. The next several chapters outline their times of rebellion and sin. His grace is present because He chose to pour it out on them. They were the unlikely candidate for great things. And for this reason the Lord chose them. I am an unlikely candidate for God’s grace. I don’t deserve it. And yet the Lord pours His grace in and through me. How about you? Do you deserve God’s grace? Of course you don’t! But God offers it to you if you will but accept it by faith. Simply trust Him, and He will give you total acceptance and forgiveness. Now, go live a life of total acceptance and forgiveness. Stay close to Him and He will show you the areas of your life that need surrender and cleansing. Yield those areas and he will transform you. Give up and He will strengthen you.
