17Mar 2011 Deuteronomy 6:12

12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

It can be easy to forget how we got to where we are today. If we get filled with pride we say and think we got here by ourselves. What a mistake that would be. Even “self-made” men and women do not really do it by themselves. They had parents who instilled traits in them, even if by negative example. They had others in school who pushed and pulled on their character. They usually had to step over many other people (perhaps even step on) in order to rise faster than their peers. We must never forget our own personal journey. I was a drug user and a drinker. Now I am not. For the last 34 years, by the grace of God, I am not. I must never forget those who believed in the Lord who was in me, and as a result, they pushed and pulled me along my spiritual journey. My loving wife of 30+ years, my two children, two in-laws, and two grand children all drive me toward the Lord. My colleagues who have walked before me and those I am leading all deserve a man of obedience. I must never forget my past. Read 8:18 if you have any doubt about our own inabilities.
