15Mar 2011 Deuteronomy 1:22

22Then all of you came to me and said, “Let us send men ahead to spy out the land for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to.”

Have you ever asked for something and then we you received it that gift became your downfall? Moses is recounting the journey from Egypt, the 40 years of wandering as punishment, and the final moments before they enter the Promised Land. The Israelites want more information about the land they are entering. This information turns to fear. They hear about the people and the cities, and they look at their own strength and they forget the Lord’s promise to give them the land. They only see the obstacles. I think the Lord spares us by not giving us a detailed picture of our personal future. We want to see years into the future and the Lord spares us. I am convinced that if we knew all the details it would scare us. The future holds so many challenges that we would run away instead of facing them. Since we focus on the difficulties rather than the Lord’s resources we get overwhelmed. If we could see His abilities we could walk into any future. I want to encourage you to look for God’s resources when you are facing a challenge, rather than focusing on your inabilities. If He has called you to that place, He will provide what you need.
