10“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
One of the most difficult tasks in life, especially today in our crazy, fast-paced world, is to be still. Many of us find it very difficult to slow down, or even stop for a few moments. I have friends who never stop going, going, going. They have no space in their life for being still. I often think those who won’t be still are running from something, or perhaps Someone. To slowdown would mean having to face themselves, and their fears and insecurities. What happens inside you when you slow down? Can you just sit, or do you have to be doing something all the time? Maybe today is the day to begin a new way of living. Maybe today is the first day you begin the journey of being still. Take a few moments now to just quiet yourself and read the first part of this verse very slowly and let it sink in. Just let yourself be still. When something tries to invade your stillness, just tell it to wait until after you are finished. If there isn’t blood or smoke, just stay still, pushing those other things aside temporarily. Be still.
