19Feb 2011 Leviticus 11:45

45 I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.

As you have been reading these chapters, so all these rules make sense? Do you understand the logic behind them? I don’t. But our verse for this day gives us the reason they make sense. The Lord gets to make the rules. He is the One who rescued and created the Israelites as a people. We will read these words repeatedly throughout the Old Testament. The Lord brought them out of Egypt. Each of these rules demonstrates in one way or another way the holiness of God. I don’t pretend to know how each of these laws and rituals demonstrates God’s holiness, but I don’t have to, and neither did the Israelites. They were to do them, not because they understood them, but because they were His people. We also are to do certain things because we are the Lord’s. These things are not done to become the Lord’s, but because we already are His. The Israelites were already the Lord’s people. Nothing they did made them so. They just were because of the Lord’s actions. Obedience to these laws flowed out of that relationship they had with the Lord.
