1 “‘If anyone sins because they do not speak up when they hear a public charge to testify regarding something they have seen or learned about, they will be held responsible.
We have to be willing to speak up when a wrong is being done. Silence is not acceptable. “But I don’t want to get involved” is not an acceptable answer. Here in this passage that outlines different sins and the means for forgiveness, the Lord lays out a way for forgiveness under the Old Testament. So how does this relate to us as Jesus-followers? We must be willing to speak up on behalf of the innocent. We can’t let convenience or our schedule keep us from doing what is right. If we know something, we need to go and testify. That might put us in danger, but we must be obedient. Silence is not an option. We can have our identity protected. But we must stand on the side of justice, and not allow a false charge to stand.
