24Jan 2011 Genesis 49:28

28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him.

God does not dole out blessings evenly. The scales of justice do not balance here in this life. But this life is not all there is. As Jacob is dying he gives each of his sons a “blessing.” Some don’t seem as much like a blessing as a curse. Some remove status and power. Life is not fair. Parents don’t necessarily treat their children equally. But notice the wording of the last phrase of this verse. Jacob knew his sons and blessed them each in an appropriate manner. The blessing matched the person. God will bless in a manner that matches us and our character and personality, as well as the mission He wants us to accomplish. It would make no sense to give me a beautiful singing voice if I hated music. Or a pitching arm if I hated baseball. He gives us blessings that are appropriate for us. And some people get more, and some people get less. Life is not fair.
