24 Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”
Joseph knows the character of his brothers even though they have been apart for over ten years. That is because character does not change that easily. Character changes for the Believer as we submit to the washing of the Word. Over years we read and study the Word of God. We listen to the Spirit’s whisper and we make the changes He tells us to make in the timing He sets. Tens of thousands of choices over a long time changes character. We get in the habit of choosing the right rather than the wrong. Our character turns from one that chooses self to one that chooses obedience. We could still make the old choices, but we choose not to. We have the ability to sin, but we choose godliness. Sometimes we get impatient with ourselves. We want change to come more quickly and be more permanent. We want the good to stick. But change takes time and the work of the Holy Spirit. You can begin the new life today: make the choice to believe and yield to His leading. Continue in the Word. Change will come.
