21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
When the Lord is with us, and we are faithful in carrying out what we are supposed to, then the Lord is able to bless. If we are lazy, the Lord has a hard time blessing. Joseph had every reason to be lazy. He was sold by his own brothers into slavery because they were jealous of his special position with their father. His owner’s wife had repeatedly tried to make passes at him and he had refused to yield. Finally she framed him and he got thrown in prison. I wonder if she had done this so many times that her husband didn’t kill them anymore, but put them in prison out of mercy? Could you stay faithful to the Lord if you were thrown in prison even though you were innocent of the crime? Joseph did. And the Lord blessed what he did, even in prison. When the Lord is with us, His blessing will flow. That does not mean that when His blessing is not present that we have sinned. Remember, Joseph was in prison and not in the palace, and he had not sinned. If we are in rebellion, the Lord has a real hard time blessing. When we are obedient, it is much easier for Him to pass His blessing through us.
