11Jan 2011 Genesis 27:20

20 Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?” “The LORD your God gave me success,” he replied.

Jacob, Isaac’s father, is ready to give his firstborn the family blessing. But Isaac is not the firstborn. He did buy the rights to the blessing with a bowl of soup, but he knows he doesn’t deserve it. And in that moment of sin, he tells of his relationship with God. Notice he says “your God,” not “my God.” Sin when it is recognized and unconfessed creates distance in our intimacy with God. We feel distant. Isaac feels that distance and calls Him “your God.” When you feel distant from the Lord, how do you act and react? Do you examine yourself and see if sin is getting in the way? I want to encourage you to have a short list with God. When you sin, go immediately and confess it to Him. Don’t wait for the time of discipline to come before you confess. Confess and repent. If not, then the Lord may be very present in your life, but you will not be able to recognize it, as Isaac failed to do at Bethel (28:16).
