10Jan 2011 Genesis 26:35

35 They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.

Sometimes even the best families have wayward children. Esau is such a son. I am sure Isaac and Rebekah spent many nights in agony filled prayer as Esau went about his rebellious ways. He ends up marrying two local women as an act of rebellion. Have we ever done things on purpose just to get back at our parents? Or maybe our spouse? When we engage in rebellious behavior we are not the only ones hurt. Many others feel the effects of that rebellion. Maybe we haven’t actually physically carried out the rebellion, but our attitude of rebellion will show through. Often that rebellious attitude looks and feels like a wall between people. The other person knows something is wrong, but they can’t put their finger on it. Your gut says something has changed, but you are not quite sure what it is. By the way, this kind of grief is no fun. So if you are in rebellion against someone close to you, turn around and move back in. Pull in close. Confess the rebellion and make amends. You won’t regret the obedience.
