There is just something about the call of Jesus that compels people to follow. I don’t mean compel in the slavery sense, but compel in the “I just gotta follow or I’ll miss out” sense. That’s the way I feel about my walk of faith. If I don’t trust Him, I will miss out on all the great things the Lord has for me. I want to experience the best, and I know that following Him will bring the best. This is not the fanciest cars or the vacation home in Hawaii. God always has a longer term perspective on “the best.” Sometimes having the eternal best means not having the temporal best. Maybe depriving ourselves of the best now is part of God’s plan. Maybe living with less now helps us spiritually. The disciples responded to the invitation to follow, and they did so with abandon and ultimately with their lives. What level of abandon are you living with? How much are you holding onto, unwilling to surrender? What part of God’s call are you not following?
