3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
I love this verse! God’s power, not your own, has given us, not in the future, but in the past so that we still have it, everything we need to be successful in our walk as children of God. This is not just spiritual provision. He gives us everything we need to be successful in our earthly life with a view toward eternity. He also provides us with everything we need to be successful at living holy lives, lives that mirror His life. He is holy in all He does, so we can also be holy. The provision for life and godliness comes as we know Him more. As we experience Him more and more, we get a personal knowledge of Him that changes us. This is not abstract theory, but instead seeing and experiencing Him working in our lives. As we seen His faithfulness again and again, we see His power at work. Then we can choose to trust Him more and more. What is written in the pages of His Word becomes real in our lives. When that happens we know Him more. And we can be sure of His continued work in us because it is He who called us, not our own doing. His glory and goodness have worked out in our lives. It is this glory and goodness that enables His power to be at work in us. Without His glory and goodness, we would be lost.
