4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
The most beautiful women are those whose inner beauty is the greatest. I love that Dove commercial where they show the woman being prepared for the billboard advertisement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omBfg3UwkYM). Every time I see a person in the media, I remember this video. Every politician, every spokesperson for a product, every celebrity. Yikes! We as God’s children don’t need to make the outside different from the inside. I know this is radical. Husbands should be able to love their wives for their inner beauty. Wives should be satisfied with inner beauty, but this is so contrary to our culture. Every message screams about outward appearance. It can be hard to be satisfied. Everyone wrinkles, gets spots, grows grey hair, or looses their hair. We sag in places we didn’t think could sag. We get fuller in all the wrong places to meet the standards of beauty as the world measures beauty. But all these things are not what beauty is all about. Beauty is an internal commodity. You either possess it or you don’t. Either Christ is being formed in you or He isn’t. And when we allow Him to be formed in us, then we become increasingly beautiful. That is beauty. No one wants a rude, pushy, overbearing individual in their lives. We all want people around us who accept us, love us, and give us our own space to grow and mature. My wife shows that gentle and quiet spirit. I think sometimes I do as well. How about you?
