40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
When we reach out in small ways and meet the simple needs of others, the Lord gives us credit for reaching out and meeting His needs. Hungry, thirsty, lonely, poorly clothed, sick, in prison. These are small needs, and when we meet them, the Lord says we have met those needs in Him. You see, the Lord binds Himself to us, especially to the downtrodden. Those at the bottom of the heap have a special place because they only have Him to cry out to. No one else will meet their need. They are the ones who get neglected. They are the ones who don’t have a political voice that gets heard. They can’t make contributions to a political action committee to purchase TV time to make their voices heard. No camera crews follow their every movement, chronicling their late-night exploits. The Church runs the food pantries of the world. We are the ones who reach out. The evolutionist are not meeting the needs of the poor. The Wiccans don’t have food drives, or clothing drives, or anything else to meet the needs of others. The Muslims recruit suicide bombers, not healthcare workers. Jesus continues to call us, even in these uncertain times, to reach out in His Name. We are His hands and feet. When we show compassion, He is present making Himself known to a hurting and broken world. If we don’t reach out, who will? Remember, it is not the rich who do the giving to the poor, it is folks just like us who have done the lion’s share of giving. Don’t let the Bill Gates of the world fool you into thinking their billions will solve the world’s problems. Jesus will solve the problems through us.
