15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
Life is not fair. Some people are more talented than I am. I can’t sing country music at all. What would the world be without country music! We are not given equality in this life. Those with more talent are not more favored by the Lord than those who don’t have as much. Ability has nothing to do with God’s presence or absence in a person’s life. It is always what we do with the abilities we have. God expects us to use our abilities, whatever they are, for Him. We get rewarded for being faithful with what we have, not for what we don’t have. Doctors should not be paid the same as a ditch digger. That would not be fair. Both are valuable and necessary, but abilities are not distributed equally. School teachers should be making more than professional sports players. Teachers have a much greater influence on our kids than do sports players. We ought to be paying them more. But our society has some mixed up priorities. We all have abilities. I can do many different types of things, as many of you can. I can only do a few things really well. That is not fair! I am responsible for what I do with the abilities I have. I will not be called to account for your abilities that don’t get utilized. Are you using your abilities for the Lord? Or are you sitting on your treasure?
