11Sep2010 Matthew 22:30

30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

Heaven is very different than this life. It is magnitudes of better that we can’t even understand. Jesus’ enemies have asked Him a question in an attempt to trip Him up and have an excuse to arrest Him and kill Him. He answers with facts that they don’t know about heaven. One of them is that normal things like marriage don’t happen there. We don’t know from Scripture whether our marriages transfer there, or if there simply is not any need for marriage. What we do know is that marriages don’t happen there. But before you get all bummed out, remember that heaven is so much better than earth that we don’t even possess words that can express how great it is. We will not miss marriage one tiny bit. Whatever relationship connections we have in heaven will be so much greater and fulfilling than our relationships here on earth. Nothing will be lacking. Notice that Jesus says in relationship to our closest connection here on earth, our marriage, we will be like the angels. Notice He doesn’t say we will BE angels, only that we will be LIKE angels in our close intimate relationships. Again, we don’t know exactly what that will be like, only that it will be fantastic. Remember, there is no lack or want in Heaven, no tears, or sorrow, or pain. We will be fulfilled, serving God’s purposes. For so many today marriage is not a fulfilling relationship. Strife, selfishness and sin have invaded making it painful. In heaven all the pain will be gone. Whatever relationships we have in heaven will be fulfilling and enriching.
