13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
One of the difficult things to grasp is that we used to be on a sinking ship called sin with no hope of rescue. Now we are on solid ground. This is the great transfer. It happened in an instant, the instant we accepted the work of Christ for ourselves. One moment we are seeing the water fill the ship and the next moment we are on solid ground. When we recognize our sinful state and the hope there is in Christ, God does a work in our hearts. He makes us alive in Christ. The life-switch gets flipped. Instantly we are alive, having been dead. We have seen some great rescues in the movies of our time. The special effects have been amazing. But none of those compare to the rescue that Jesus did on the cross and in the empty tomb. The world that had no hope of rescue from sin’s death-grip has now been given the option of new life. The inevitable end of darkness and despair now has the possibility of light and life. The life of faith is one that recognizes and acknowledges this fact daily. It is all about what Christ has done on our behalf. It is never about what we did or do. Are you able to recognize the kingdom in your life? Are you able to see the Son working in your life? If not, maybe you need a transfer!
