31Aug2010 Matthew 21:34

34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.

The Lord has the right to gain fruit from us. He has given us everything we need to succeed. In this parable the owner of a vineyard has made a fully self-sufficient winery. He provided the vines, the winepress, the wall to keep out the wild animals and for protection, a guard tower which would double as a home. Then he rents this ready-for-profit vineyard to a man with the understanding that his rent will simply be part of the harvest of wine. All He asks is that we give Him His share. Is it too small a thing to give the Lord the honor due His Name? He has been so generous with us. Why is it so difficult to give to Him and to others? The context of this parable is a rebuke of the religious leaders for their failure to heed the message of the prophets and even the message of Jesus. They had mistreated the prophets who spoke on God’s behalf to His people. Now they were getting ready to kill Jesus, the son. This parable, along with the other more direct statements made by Jesus, predict his rejection, death, burial and resurrection. The Lord asks us for our worship. He asks us to surrender our lives to His will.
