10Aug2010 Ephesians 3:18

18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

Paul’s prayer is, not only that we would be rooted and established in love, but that we would know the boundless, borderless love of Christ. But we can’t grasp this on our own. We need God’s power working in us in order to grasp this truth. This truth is too great for us to grasp. Humanly speaking, it is impossible for us to fully understand God’s love for us in Christ. Every human dimension is not enough to measure that love. His love is greater than any measurement we as humans can make. And that love is for you! In all our sinfulness and rebellion, God still loves us. He loved us enough to give up His life that we might live. He took the place of the condemned in order that we might experience innocence. He took the bullet for us. However you want to express it, He did what we were not willing to do for ourselves. He obeyed fully that we might get the benefit of His obedience, not the consequences of our rebellion. And only the power of God can help us understand this. I can usually tell when someone truly understands this love. There is a brokenness of spirit, a gentleness when dealing with other’s sin, that shows that understanding. You can’t be proud and boastful when you understand the size of God’s love. Since you don’t deserve it, why not be thankful and extand that love to someone else today.
