24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
From what I have read, the eye of a needle referred to a small door in a large door at the entrance of a city. The small door was only big enough for a person to walk through. It was small so that it could easily be secured, preventing an enemy from exploiting the entrance in case of attack. A camel could be brought through the door, only if everything was removed from its back and it was forced to squeeze through on its knees. This was not a natural position for a camel. They would have gone through complaining and resisting with every push. They would be completely uncooperative. This is a great picture of the struggle for someone attached to their wealth. If they are to get into the Kingdom, they must get rid of everything, and even then, they will protest. Before we get too high and mighty, let’s realize that 80% of the world lives on less than $10 a day. Ten bucks! Maybe we fit into that rich category. A carwash is $10. A meal for two at a fast food place is $10. We are part of the privileged 20%.

Maybe we need to get rid of our burden of money and enter the Kingdom. This is a challenge for me. I have to be honest, I like my comfort, my cool home in the Summer, warm home in the Winter. I like my three meals a day. I like being able to go to a Restaurant when I feel lazy, or want something special. But I also hear the warning of this passage. It is hard for a rich person to get into the Kingdom because they trust their riches. Are you willing (am I willing) to quit trusting in my wealth? Are you willing to thrust yourself on the mercy of the Lord?
