18July2010 Romans 1:9

9 God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you

The idea of constantly, continually, unceasingly doing anything is foreign to our Western minds. Our minds have been trained by television to function in twenty five minute bursts, with frequent commercial interruptions. To actually sit still for a full length movie requires constant action and change on the screen. Gone are the days of simple pleasures. Instead we demand ever new stimulations. We have become addicted to seeking the newest pleasures. Convenience and comfort have replaced perseverance. If it can’t happen quickly, then it is deemed unimportant and therefore irrelevant. Paul enjoins us to by his example that the most important things in life come at a price, the price of ‘unceasingly’. May we be as Paul in prayer for our families and our world. May we be unceasingly persistent in the application of the Gospel to our lives. May we be the first to serve through prayer and intercession, and then through our feet. Then we will experience the joys that Paul seemed to have as a constant companion. Even in the harshest trials, he remained joyful. That is because he learned unceasingly. He learned to stick with it no matter what the opposition was doing. He had follow through. He never seemed to quit. May we learn from him.
