26May2009 Matt 13:33

33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Once God is present in a situation you can’t stop His work. But like yeast, Christ’s presence must be activated. Yeast must have warmth, moisture and sugar in order to continue growing. During the kneading process the yeast gets thoroughly worked into every corner of dough. If it doesn’t get spread around evenly, then large bubbles form in the dough as the yeast devours all the sugars present in that part of the dough. Yeast will affect every place it touches. When God becomes active in our lives, He will affect every part of us, if we let him. The parts we don’t allow the Lord to have access to will cease to grow. We will become lopsided Christians. God needs a willing heart in order to work through every corner of our being. We might be all about memorizing Scripture, but never listen to the Spirit’s prompting to give to the poor. We might spend all day praying for other people, but never actually interact in a deep, personal way with anyone. We might be someone who loves to sing praises, but never wrestles with the Word. When we continue to surrender, the Lord has a way of putting us in circumstances that push and pound us in order to take away our comfort. He does this so that His Word has access to every area of our lives. And when He has access He will change us. His yeast will turn us into something that others will want to emulate. His yeast turns us from raw flour to edible bread. Are you willing to become what God intends?
