1May2009 1Cor 1:30-31

30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

God has provided everything we need to be successful, both in this life and in eternity in heaven. Again, He provided. And since He provided, we have nothing to boast about. Ouch! That is hard to swallow. You mean, I don’t have anything that I can boast about? That’s right. Nothing? Yep. But if we want to boast, we are to boast about the greatness and grace of the Lord. He is something to boast about. He has done what none of us ever could. He paid the ultimate price and secured our place in heaven. None of us could ever do that. He made a way for us to experience peace, peace with God and with each other. As we look around the world we can see that earthly peace done man’s way just doesn’t exist. The past hundred years has been one of increasing conflict. You would think that with all the knowledge and education that man would have risen above these petty differences. But earthly answers don’t work. Earthly answers lead to earthly boasting. But heavenly answers lead to boasting about the Lord. One of the things I miss in church these days is the Jesus-centered conversations. If we spent more time talking about what the Lord is doing in our lives, perhaps the Lord could do more in our lives. Instead, we spend time talking about our problems, or the insignificant details of work or sports. If we want to spend time boasting, let’s boast in Jesus. I find that the more we focus on what the Lord is doing the less we notice the little problems that come our way. When our eyes are focused on Him, our problems seem much less significant.
