28Apr2009 1 Corinthians 1:8

8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We live in a world where people “get away with” doing wrong. We don’t have cameras on us 24/7 keeping track of our every action. We don’t have someone listening to our thoughts. We do “get away with” so much. We are not blameless. If our lives were matched against the standard of God, every one of us, even as Believers, will fail the test. But Paul says that the Lord wants to keep us strong through the length of our walk with Him. He wants us to be found blameless. So we are stuck, right? We know we are not blameless, that our lives do not match His standard, so what are we to do? Throw up our hands in despair? Yes, if that means total surrender to Him and His will. We can never meet the standard. But the standard has already been met. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection met the requirement for us. If we are His, then we have already met the standard. We are blameless. We must simply stay His in surrender and dependence. No one will be able to point their finger at us with accusations of wrongdoing. When the gavel of justice falls, there will be no sentence that we must bear. Jesus already took the sentence for us. He went to jail already. He took our beating. He suffered our death sentence. So if we are His, we are blameless, since the sentence has already been satisfied.
