Some of the disturbing news of our day deals with the attempt to redefine marriage. If we allow the redefinition to happen, what is to prevent animals or small children getting included in that definition in the future? Truth is truth. No matter how we want to redefine it, you can’t erase the truth. There are some things that are just wrong. Rape is always wrong. Sex with animals is always wrong. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Up is up! As Israel is delivered from Egypt the Lord wants them to be different from all the other nations on earth. Their standards are to be higher. That is because the Lord’s standard is higher. He doesn’t like perversions of the truth. He likes purity, because He is pure. Think about this topic for a moment. The Scriptures had to deal with this topic. It must have been a practice of some people almost 3200 years ago. We think we have a corner on the perversion market. But people were perverting sex way back then. The goal of sexual intimacy is not primarily pleasure. Pleasurable feelings can be part of the process, but they are not the primary goal. Sexual intimacy is primarily about connection, bonding between husband and wife. This type of intimacy creates chemicals in the brain that give us feelings of warmth and connection, safety and security, togetherness and permanence. When we move sexual intimacy out of the marriage arena that intimacy gets watered down. When there are multiple sexual partners the bonding does not happen as rapidly or deeply. How can there ever be bonding at the deepest level with an animal? Sex with an animal is a degrading of the human spirit. It lowers humans to their level. Sex loses its god designed nature. Today, people often see sex as just a fancy handshake. As a result it doesn’t create that bond that is needed for healthy long-term relationship. Exclusivity in sexual relationships creates the needed bond.
