28Feb2009 Exodus 13:7

7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders.

This was to be a seven day reminder of the haste of their rescue from Egypt. Seven days to focus heart and mind on the reality of their rescue. Seven days to pass on the truth to your children. One of the reasons Easter week has so many services in some churches is because it gives an opportunity to focus hearts and minds on the truth of the central belief of the Gospel. The Jews would not be the Jews if they had not been collectively rescued from Egypt following the death of all the firstborn of Egypt. It was this collective rescue, this Exodus, that set them apart from other nations. The Lord had intervened in their lives collectively. The Exodus was their birth experience. The plagues were the labor pains. Passover was the point of full dilation, and crossing the read see was the birth. The doctor spanking them came when they made the golden calf! But I digress. Their lives came to a halt for these seven days. Their diets changed; they ate nothing with yeast. Their routines changed; they didn’t do regular work. Their discussions changed; they talked about God’s deliverance. I wonder what would happen if we spent time each day in the week leading up to Resurrection Day talking about the events of our Exodus from sin. Maybe would could tell our children how we became Believers. We could share the events of Jesus’ final week during the meals. We could talk about what they mean to us today. We could so some activities that reinforced these truths. What a great week that could be. I bet it could change the course of a family. Tell me what you think. Is that something you want to do?
