26Jan2009 Exodus 6:26

26 It was this same Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.”

This verse follows a short listing of family connections. Moses and Aaron are not in Egypt at this moment. They are about to arrive in Egypt and talk to Pharaoh. The writer wants to be sure the readers understand that the previous section and the following section are referring to the same people. We have the advantage of the complete Scriptures bound in a single book. We can, if we want to, sit down and read right through both sections. But in the ancient world, someone would have read these sections, perhaps weeks apart from one another. It would be important to refresh the memories of those hearing. Do we ever forget where we are in His Story? Do we ever find ourselves trying to do something that will make us more acceptable to Him? If we do, we forget where we are in His Story. We are after the Cross. The payment has been made. We are totally accepted by Him. Nothing we do or don’t do increases His love for us. Our names are known by Him, and we know His name. But we must remember that we are Post-Cross people. The people hearing this history would need to remember they were Post-Egypt people. They had been delivered from bondage by two real people. The events were anchored in history. And just as the Lord was faithful to His servants in the past, He would remain faithful in the present. It is amazing what God can accomplish in a short period of time through a few individuals willing to do what God calls them to do. Are you willing to be one of the few? Are you willing to let God use you?
