19Jan2009 Exodus 4:31

31 and they believed. And when they heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.

So many times when people are in distress I hear them say that God doesn’t care, that He must not know the misery that is taking place. We can feel so alone in our pain. We feel like no one knows how much it hurts, like we are the only one experiencing something like this. That is how the children of Israel felt in Egypt. The rulers had changed their attitude toward them. They had been seen as very welcome guests in the country. Joseph, one of their own, had saved Egypt from disaster. He had the God-given wisdom to understand the dreams and know what to do about them. His planning kept them from starving to death. But over time that had been forgotten. Now they were seen as a threat to internal security. Their lives were now filled with misery. There was a death sentence on their baby boys. Their level of labor had greatly increased. They felt alone, without a voice. And now they hear that the Lord had spoken to Moses, that He was concerned, that He has seen their misery. It makes such a difference when we don’t feel alone when we are suffering. It lightens the burden when we know that someone understands, that someone has taken the time to listen you us. And their response is worship. When we find out that God is concerned about us, that He understands what we are going through, we should respond in like manner. We should worship as well. There were no complaints about His timing. They didn’t tell Him He was late. They just worshipped. Their hearts turned and believed. And when they believed what Moses and Aaron said, they responded with worship. Our response to believing should also be worship.
