12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites
Often the blessing of God is misunderstood by those who are not participants in it. When outsiders look at God’s blessing they often see something very different than the reality. Their view is partial and from a particular angle. They have a particular idea about life that changes their interpretation of events. For instance, if you believed that the sky was green rather than blue, you would end up arguing over the colors of many things. You might even pass a law declaring your perception of the color of the sky to be true. And then you could prosecute those who disagreed with you. You could force your view of the world on those around you. It would not change the color of the sky, but it would prevent or at least squelch dissenting voices. This is what the new powers in Egypt did. They saw the Israelites as a threat, even though the Israelites had done nothing to deserve that label. But they believed them to be a threat and therefore they acted on the belief. But when you act on falsehood, you don’t get the results you want. Instead of being oppressed and shrinking in number, the Israelites grew. That is because God was with them and blessing them. Previous rulers had known of God’s blessing and taken advantage of that blessing. Pharaoh had understood the wisdom of Joseph and Egypt was saved from a severe famine as a result. Pharaoh acted in line with truth and he got the benefit. But this current leader views them as a threat and tries in vain to keep the blessing of God from happening. If you continue to hit obstacles in your life, perhaps you are trying to push against the truth. Perhaps, instead of fighting the truth, become someone who works with the truth instead. When we work with the truth, the natural and supernatural outcomes of truth will be evident in our lives. That does not mean that all obstacles are an indication of going in the wrong direction, but instead, that truth will prevail no matter the circumstances.
